Ring Master Review Introduces: Give Into Temptation Review

Give In To Temptation is a great title for the debut album from the Brighton hailing Stone Angels (not to be confused with The Stone Angels from Devon), as that is exactly what you do, inescapably submit to its eventful rock ‘n’ roll roar. Jammed with eleven fresh sounding tracks which brew up rousing exploits from admittedly pretty recognisable sounds and inspirations the album is hefty in anthems and punchy adrenaline charged stomps, and as high on that familiarity to others as it can be at times, Give In To Temptation lets no one down when it comes to thrills and enjoyment. Stone Angels emerged in 2011 from the ever musically resourceful scene in Brighton, the experienced quartet rising from the ashes of ‘several broken’ bands. Drawing on inspirations from the classic LA rock and legendary UK rock scenes, and bands ramngimng from Alter Bridge, Black Stone Cherry, Black Spiders, AC/DC, Massive, and Rival Sons to Five Finger Death Punch, Foo Fighters, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Slash’s Snake Pit, and King’s X, Stone Angels’ hard rock incitement has seen them become one of the UK’s most potent live propositions. Now the band is looking to awaken even broader attention with the national re-release of Give In To Temptation, a prospect you can see gathering rather potent success. The reason being songs like Misplaced Memories and Devil’s Child, they just the first two tracks on the swiftly persuasive encounter. The opener worries ears with a torrent of hungry riffs and spiky grooves meshed into a rhythmic web cast by drummer Ben Taylor and bassist Chris Wilson. There is grouchiness to the...

The Midlands Rocks: Give In To Temptation Review

Review by Sophie Maughan   There is no greater feeling than discovering a band like Brighton’s hard rocking and rolling Stone Angels. This determined quartet, who rose like a rampant phoenix from the flames of several failed bands, are now poised to command and conquer following the obligatory years of hitting up every toilet venue on the UK circuit. The end result of such grit, sweat and tears comes in the form of ‘Give In To Temptation’ – the band’s debut album which is set for re-release this month. Citing musical influences such as Black Stone Cherry and Alter Bridge coupled with glorious epithets such as “whisky soaked” in relation to their sound, it is virtually impossible to resist such an offering. My feet are tapping immediately on first listen of opener ‘Misplaced Memories’ – crunching riffs give way to an infectious chorus laced with the raw rasp of Niall Kersey’s vocals. As the saying goes, “There’s no rest for the wicked” and ‘Devil’s Child’ is the embodiment of such a phrase. It chugs along like a speeding truck on the highway to hell before giving way to current hook-laden single ‘Can You?’ with stellar guitar work and levels of swag so high they should be illegal. That’s not to say these guys don’t know how to pen a good ol’ anthemic AOR ballad with the introspective smoulder of ‘Last Goodbyes’ and slow burner ‘Fine Day’. I loved the melancholia of the former and the combination of wailing vocals and those driving guitars at 3:40 on the latter. The only criticism one could draw here is that the song seems...
Maximum Volume: Give In To Temptation Review

Maximum Volume: Give In To Temptation Review

Brighton classic rockers get their heads down, plug in, and play some classic rock They say you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. But what about a rock n roll record? Well they are different, aren’t they? How many people can share the experience of MVM when shopping for tapes as kids, where you went in (and these are pre-Internet days) and made your purchase based on the fact the album had that red and white Atlantic spine, or that your mate shouted across the record shop “‘ere these look like you might like ’em…..”? Maybe Brighton’s Stone Angels can relate to that (or maybe they aren’t quite as old as MVM) either way, look at the sleeve for “Give In To Temptation” that accompanies this review. The neon Triple X, the skull’s the words. The implication is, step into this world and it’ll just be fun…. And, that’s exactly what it is. “Give In To Temptation” is quite simply, well, simple. It’s nothing more than a very good hard rock album, one with the odd foray into other places, but largely, it’s exactly the type of collection that Stone Angels wanted it to be. They call themselves “Whiskey Soaked” and that’s a good epithet to describe the mid paced and rather reflective “Thousand Years” which restrains its desire to rock just about in favour of something a little more epic, but “……Temptation” is at its absolute best when it’s being downright hedonistic. “Misplaced Memories” kicks things off, and does so in such a way as to imply that Stone Angels have zero intention of messing about. A...

Interview with Rock Your Lyrics

View the original interview here… RYL: Your new album “Give In To Temptation” will be released in just few weeks, which is the main challenge that you encountered while recording it? What does it mean for you, lyrically speaking? Stone Angels: The biggest hurdle when it came to making the record, was finding time to get into the studio. This is due to the fact that we are very poor and work full time jobs, so we would mainly go in on weekends or evenings after work. On one of the final days of recording, just before the tracks were going to be sent off to be mastered, we got a frantic call from our studio engineer; he had lost the recording for James’ solo on “Thousand Years”, so James had to race down after work from Worthing all the way to Newhaven during rush hour to get it done in time. Other then that, the whole process was relatively stress free. RYL: Tell us everything about the song “Fantasy” Stone Angels: Well, it’s the classic case of going out with the lads, seeing a nice woman while you’re out, and still knowing that she’s never going to be any good for you, you still go for her anyways, bringing her home for some fun in the bedroom, and trying to make her change her ways while you have you way! RYL: Is there a common meaning/theme between all your songs? Stone Angels: We wouldn’t say that there was a common theme between the songs so to speak, although each member of the band contributes to the material; the...

Review from Heavy Metal Resource

Here’s a cool release for fans of no nonsense straight forward hard rock. The bands sound is a bit more about old school having drawn influences out of the L.A. rock scene as well as the UK scene from years past. The band have a good mainstream rock feel with today’s technology. There is a video for the track ‘Can You?’ that gives the listener unfamiliar with them a taste of their sound. Other standout tracks include ‘Devil’s Child’, the album opener ‘Misplaced Memories’ and the more melodic ‘Thousand Years’ which gives you a feel for the band at the other end of the spectrum. Solid release! Rating:...

Interview with VENTS Magazine

View the original interview here… VENTS: Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been? Stone Angels:Hi, we are very good thank you, still alive so can’t complain. VENTS: Can you tell us more about the backstory behind your single ‘Can you?’ ? Stone Angels: Well the songwriting for that track started off with the main riff in the intro, and as we played around with it more and begun working out its heavy groove, the lyrics started to come to us. It’s very much a song about being down on your luck at your lowest point and feeling alone and abandoned, it’s something that anyone can relate to. We feel that’s probably one of the reasons that it has been so well received when we play it at our shows. VENTS: How was the film experience? Stone Angels: Ha, well that was a very interesting but fun experience on a cold Saturday in February. It’s definitely shows what you can achieve on a shoe string budget as it only ended up costing us a couple of band t-shirts and a Chinese takeaway! The reason we got it done so cheaply is that two friends of the band (they happen to be brothers called Chris & Steve) run their own film production company and as soon as they heard we were making the album, they offered to do it for free as they wanted to help us out, so we thought that the least we could do was to feed and clothe them. Luckily the location was also free as James’ parents live in the middle of a forest...
